Extreme hardship is a constant companion in the Karens' bitter war against the Burmese junta.

According to many Karen, the very survival of their people depends on the KNU (Karen National Union) guerrillas, Burma's largest ethnic resistance army

They are fighting for independence against Burma which is ruled by a military junta called the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC).

Tens of thousands of Karen have been driven into refugee camps in Northern Thailand by SPDC attacks. These camps were also the subject of attacks and many were burned to the ground.

Many have been in these camps for years, some being born there and have know no other life.

Karen Speaking Service

at CHBC

in 2005 about 25 Karen people started to worship with us and to call CHBC their home.

Many had spent up to 20 years in a Karen Refugee Camp on the Thailand/Burmese border, and had never worshipped in a church building before.

We welcome them, and are please to announce the commencement of a "Karen Speaking" Service at CHBC on a Sunday afternoon.
